SAS Nagar police have arrested three persons and rescued a Dubai-based businessman, whose associate had allegedly hatched the whole plan to kidnap him, get ransom money from his kin and then eliminate him.

Asif Ali, the businessman from Gujarat, was kidnapped after a plan was hatched by his business associate Pushpal Singh, who is an MBA graduate.

Police have arrested Pushpal Singh from Fathegarh Sahib, Satbir Singh alias Prince from Bassi Pathana and Gurnam Singh from Kurali under Sections 364-A (kidnapping for ransom), 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt), 387 (putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) in a case registered at Mataur police station.

The complainant is Dr Nasir Ali, victim's cousin and resident of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh.

Asif Ali had gone to his office in Sector 70, SAS Nagar, on July 3, from where the accused took him along on the pretext of settling a monetary dispute with his partner. They forced him at gunpoint to call up his cousin in Gujarat to arrange for Rs 12 lakh and deposit it in Gurnam Singh's account. However, when Asif Ali was not released even after the ransom was paid, his cousin Dr Nasir Ali approached SAS Nagar police.

"A police team rescued Asif Ali safe and sound from Hotel Midway on Landran-Fathegarh Sahib road on July 8. All three accused were arrested while three of their accomplice Gurjeet Singh, Harpreet Singh alias Happy and Satnam Singh are still at large," said SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.

"The accused had planned to get Asif Ali, whose is presently based in Dubai, eliminated after getting the ransom amount and to pass it off as suicide. They had even got a suicide note written by Asif Ali," added Bhullar.

"All the accused have been remanded in three-day police custody by a local court. We are yet to seized the revolver used by the kidnappers, the video clip shot by them and the suicide note," said SI Narinder Singh, who is investigating the case.

'Kidnappers planned to kill me'
"I was beaten up merciless day in and day out by the kidnappers, who had even planned to kill me," said Asif Ali in his police statement.

Asif Ali, who hails from Gujarat, has a company in Dubai. He is into the business of investing into equities and along with Pushpal Singh, was to start business of online trading in commodities.

"I was tied to a chair and ropes were untied only when I wished to use the washroom or eat food. They beat me continuously," he added.

As for the monetary dispute, he said, "They had invested some money and as per my records, the amount to be paid back to them was Rs 12 lakh while they claimed it was Rs 35 lakh. To recover the money, they had kidnapped me," Ali alleged.
