Residents of Sector 68 in SAS Nagar have sought shifting of a garbage dumping site created by the municipal corporation near the residential area.
The area residents are not only struggling with the foul smell emanating from the garbage dump but also with the bovine menace and stray dogs.
Request of the residents living in the close vicinity of the dumping site to shift the same have failed to yield any results.
"From day one, we have been requesting the authorities to shift the garbage dump but the authorities have failed to take note," said Renu Agnihotri, who has been staying in Meco Society Sector 68 for last 10 years.
Agnihotri added, "Schoolchildren have to pass through the dump every day with covered noses. Fear of catching infections is also looming large on the residents."
Another area resident Yashpal said, "The garbage dumping point was created about three months ago. Not only the foul smell but stray animals have made our life hell. Repeated complaints to the authorities have failed to provide any relief. All we demand is to shift the garbage dumping point from the residential area to any non-residential area."
"We have received requests of the residents to shift the garbage dumping point from this area and are working on to provide permanent solution to the same. It will take time," assured mayor Kulwant Singh.
