A 32-year-old Lakwinder Kaur, alias Lucky, was arrested by the Central Investigating Agency (CIA), SAS Nagar, on late Thursday evening with 60 gm heroin worth about Rs 3 lakh.
Lucky was arrested from Phase 11 market while she was allegedly waiting to deliver the said drugs to a client. She was nabbed on a tip and was produced in local court on Friday from where she was sent to a one day police remand.
According to the police Lucky has been staying in a rented accommodation in Phase 11 with a live-in partner and latter's involvement has been ruled out in heroin business by the police.
A divorcee native of Malerkotla, she had allegedly been in the drug supplying business for past one year. The police further informed that the accused was living at the said accommodation since 2006 and before that she was in Phase I.
Talking to HT, a senior police official said, "We had got a tip following which we laid the trap to arrest her. She has so far confessed that she got into business about a year back and had been working as a supplier. We are trying to get details on her customers and others who used to supply her. The interrogation is on following which we would be able to share more details."
Meanwhile the police also recovered accused's Alto car in which she used to deliver the drugs. The police have also recovered electronic weighing scale used by the accused to weigh and supply the quantity of drugs to her clients.
Lucky, who has studied upto Class 10 has allegedly told the police that it was for a comfortable life style and easy money that she got in the business of drugs. She reportedly did nothing for a living and it was only through selling drugs that she earned her living. Lucky has been booked under Section 21/61/85 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act).
