Punjab Congress spokesman Sukhpal Singh Khaira has requested union minister of state for external affairs Preneet Kaur to help 35 Punjabi youth stuck in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, because of unscrupulous travel agents.

In a communiqué to the central minister, Khaira stated that the 35 victims in the age group of 18 to 30 were virtual captives of Al Twaik company in the Saudi Arabian capital since November 2013. He said travel agents Sumit of Jalandhar, Sharanjit Singh of Gurdaspur, Davinder Singh of Baba Bakala and Ganesh of Jalandhar had lured them by the promise of foreign employment.

Their company has impounded their passports and forced them into bonded labour. “They are being tortured,” Khaira has pointed out in letter, annexing photographs of the stranded youth. Some of the victims are from Bholath, his erstwhile assembly constituency.
