The Scheduled Caste (SC) students, studying in Classes 1 to 12 in government schools all over Haryana, would now get higher monthly stipend.
The decision would benefit 11.79 lakh students and cost the state exchequer Rs 458.48 crore during the current financial year, education minister Geeta Bhukkal said in a release on Tuesday.
While boys studying in Classes 11 and 12 would now get Rs 400 instead of Rs 300 per month, girls studying in these classes would get a stipend of Rs 600 instead of Rs 400 per month.
Bhukkal said 9.29 lakh students, both boys and girls, would benefit to the tune of Rs 319.87 crore and 2.49 lakh students would benefit with Rs 138.61 crore during the current financial year.
The boys studying in Classes 9 and 10 would now get monthly incentive of Rs 250 instead of Rs 200 and girls would get Rs 400 instead of Rs 300. She said that boys studying in Classes 6 to 8 would get monthly incentive of Rs 200 instead of Rs 150, while for girls the stipend would be Rs 300 per month instead of Rs 200.
Boys in Classes 1 to 5 would now get an incentive of Rs 150 per month instead of Rs 100 and girls would get Rs 225 instead of Rs 150.
Bhukkal said the state government had started monthly scholarship scheme in 2008-09 with a view to checking the dropout rate among students belonging to the weaker sections of society.
The state government had spent Rs 301.85 crore on providing monthly incentive to 10.72 lakh SC students during the last financial year.
