A seminar on cyber safety was conducted in the Gurukul School on Monday by Rakshit Tandon, consultant-internet and Mobile Association of India, advisor-Cyber Crime Unit, UP Police and Gurgaon Police that educated the young people about netiquettes, which would help them have a safe and productive web-surfing experience.

Rakshit Tandon emphasised on the fact that safety is of utmost priority in today's world where kids at a very young age start surfing the web. It almost becomes obligatory for parents to watch their kid's online behavior.

However, restricting access to the internet is not a solution as that will only stop them from gaining knowledge. Rather, the focus should be on making them understand the real world of web and educating them on internet safety. He made the students realize that when they are sure that they have made themselves safe and secure online, the tentacles of cybercrime creep in unannounced. The students got to know about how vulnerable the social networking sites are and how their personal information can be misused and put their future at stake.

It was a revelation for the students when they internalized the fact that there is a black and white difference between virtual life and reality. The students got information about different recovery options, web security locks, safety icons and safe browsers and websites.

Principal Harsimran Kaur said that it had been an endeavour at The Gurukul to create awareness in the students and for this we take strength from the confluence of ideas of experts in their respective fields. This seminar by Surf Safe would help the students have the best possible experience online.
