School van driver killed in mishap

The driver of a school van was killed in a road accident near bus stand in Khuda Alisher on Friday. The victim, Satish Kumar (50), was ferrying three students back home in a Maruti van (CH-04L-0871), when the vehicle collided head-on with a Ford Ikon car (CH-01-AU-4059).

Investigating officer sub-inspector Ramesh Kumar said a police party took Satish to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16, where he was declared brought dead. The body will be handed over to family after the postmortem. The deceased is survived by three children and wife.

All the three students are studying in Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, and they escaped unhurt.

The driver of the Ford Ikon car sped away from the spot, but the vehicle was traced later. The driver is absconding.

A case for rash driving, causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others, and causing death by negligence under sections 279, 337 and 304A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the unidentified driver at the Sector 11 police station.
