Union minister for social justice minister and empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot has said that the government will try to establish a Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe commission for Chandigarh as soon as possible.
Interacting with Bharatiya Janata Party workers at the party office 'Kamalam' in Sector 33, Gehlot said Chandigarh must also have a SCST commission like other states. He also promised that the process to issue SC certificate will be simplified.
"The central government has numerous schemes for the underprivileged sections of the society. The benefit of these schemes must reach the intended beneficiaries and the BJP workers should strive towards this goal," he said. Workers should also ensure that that Prime Minister's 'Jan-Dhan Yojna' reaches deserving people.
Chandigarh BJP chief Sanjay Tandon said that Scheduled Castes had played a prominent role in the recent Lok Sabha elections and this role will be still more important in the coming times.
Party vice-presidents Raghuvir Lal Arora and Ramvir Bhatti, general secretaries Prem Kaushik and Chander Shekhar, Chandigarh municipal corporation oppostition leader Arun Sood, senior deputy mayor Hira Negi, former state president Kamla Sharma, spokespersons Dharinder Tayal, Kailash Chandra Jain and Gurpreet Dhillon and media cell coordinator Ravinder Pathania were present on the occasion.
