Two days after Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) sealed three marriage palaces here, the residents who had made bookings at the palaces have been left in lurch.
The three weeding halls - Libra Orchids, Celebrations and Dara Studio had booked nearly 60 functions till March 10. Most people are left with no option but to cancel their functions or look for another place in a short time.
GMADA had sealed the palaces on Monday for using the industrial plots for non-designated purposes.
Jai Bhagwan, a Sector-37 resident of Chandigarh, whose daughter's marriage was fixed at Celebrations on February 2, said, “To change the venue at this hour was very difficult. We are yet to inform the guests about the new palace through phone calls as the invitation cards were already distributed.”
“In such a short time, other palaces were charging almost double the amount from us. We had booked Celebrations for Rs 1.35 lakh, but, after it was sealed, we had to book another palace for Rs 2.5 lakh for the same date”, added Bhagwan.
Another Chandigarh resident, requesting anonymity, said, “We had booked Dara Studio for my son's marriage. Only 10 days are left for the wedding and we have no idea what to do. We are in a fix as all our invitation cards have been distributed.”
We request GMADA authorities to allow the wedding halls till March 10 as people are not at fault, he added.
