The Traders Association, Sector 17, has submitted a list of demands for the forthcoming meeting of Chandigarh VAT Advisory Committee.
The association has demanded reduction of VAT on retreated tyres, gold and silver coins, and silver utensils.
The meeting that aims to give an opportunity to both officials and traders to resolve long-pending issues, will be held after a gap of nearly two years. As per the norms, the committee has to meet once in two months.
Kamaljit Singh Panchhi, president of the association, said that Chandigarh followed Punjab rules, but VAT on retreated tyres, gold and silver coins, and silver utensils was much higher than Punjab.
Panchhi said during the last meeting of the committee, the department had assured to lower the rates of VAT from 12.5% to 5% on cream, butter, and withdrawal of VAT on sweets and paneer on Punjab pattern, but nothing had been done so far.
The department has requested all members to send agenda items to be discussed in the meeting, which will be chaired by UT deputy commissioner-cum-excise and taxation commissioner.
The committee comprises 18 members, including Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM) president, Industries Association of Chandigarh (IAC) president and two lawyers.
