The preparations for hosting the circuit bench of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) from November 17 onwards were in full swing in the city on Friday.

As part of the preparations, the Chandigarh Consumer Courts Building in Sector 19 will get an uplift as the NCDRC will be hearing cases at the courts building from November 17 onwards.

Justice (retd) DK Jain, president of NCDRC, is scheduled to head the circuit bench from November 17 to 21.

During the second week, the bench will be headed by justice VB Gupta. Over 170 cases are slated for hearing and final disposal.

The entire list of cases for all 15 days has been displayed in the Court premises. A special courtroom on the third floor of the consumer courts building in Sector 19, Chandigarh, is being prepared for this purpose.

The third floor, which was previously not in use, now has a fully-furbished court room with tiled floors and venetian blinds. The rest of the building has also been given a facelift.

As part of the preparations, lifts have been repainted and wooden panels have been fitted on its exteriors on each floor.

The electrical equipment has been repaired and the battery back-up has been doubled.
