At least six activists of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Front (JKDF) were injured in lathicharge as police today foiled their Secretariat 'Chalo' march in this winter capital of the state.

The JKDF had announced Secretariat 'Chalo' march in protest against water and electricity shortage in the town besides inflation.

Amid anti-government slogans about 300 workers of JKDF led by its president Anu Gupta this afternoon took out a protest rally towards the Civil Secretariat from Indira Chowk.

After covering Hari Market and Raghunath Bazar areas of an old city, it was stopped by the heavy deployment of police at City Chowk, just few metres short of the Secretariat complex.

The district administration has already imposed section 144 of CrPC around the Civil Secretariat in view of Darbar Move. The JKDF activists however forcibly tried to proceed towards the Secretariat complex following which police resorted to lathicharge.

At least six JKDF activists including women sustained injuries in the batoncharge. The injured were later shifted to hospital and the protestors later dispersed peacefully.
