'Seek package for state, not only border districts'

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday reacted strongly to the letter written by PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa to the Prime Minister, seeking extension of the special industrial package given to three hill states to six border districts of Punjab and said though these districts were industrially backward, the rest of the state had also suffered heavily due to excise concessions.

In a statement, SAD secretary and spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema described the letter as mischievous, discriminatory and ample proof of the PPCC chief's shallow vision.

He urged Bajwa to explain why the Congress had left out 16 other important districts of Punjab from this list. "Have not Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Mandi Gobindgarh, Mohali, and other industrial cities suffered badly due to industrial package to the neighbouring states ?" asked Cheema.

The SAD advised Bajwa that once he has become the President of the state unit of his party, he should rise above the constituency considerations and narrow political goals and think of the state as a whole.
