The Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday issued a notice of motion to the Subordinate Service Selection (SSS) Board, Punjab, on a petition seeking quashing of the final results for the selection of 1,192 clerks by the state government.

The petitioners, Pawandeep Singh and three others, informed the court that while declaring the result, the board had violated the law that says if a reserved-category candidate scores more marks than the general-category candidates, then the reserved-category candidates have to be selected against general-category seats and not only against reserved seats.

The petitioners belonging to the backward class (BC) category had submitted that though they had scored more than the general-category candidates, they were rejected, whereas the general-category candidates scoring lower marks were selected.

Of the total posts, 107 were reserved for the BC category. The typing test for the recruitment was conducted on November 23 last year. Its result was declared on May 26, the counselling of selected candidates was held from June 2 to 10 and the final result was announced on June 26.

The case would now come up for hearing on August 22.
