Lt Gen KJ Singh, Army Commander, Western Command, said the Army would soon have its first ultra-modern senior citizens’ home for veterans in Panchkula. Addressing a function organised by Chandigarh Senior Citizen Association (CSCA) at Chandimandir on Monday, the Army Commander said at the outset, the home would house 60 inmates.
He said a proposal to build a similar home in SAS Nagar was on the agenda as well, but added that the vision could only materialise with assistance from the Punjab Government to acquire land for the same.
The Army Commander also praised the welfare activities carried out by veterans. Brig (Dr) ML Kataria (retd) was honoured on the occasion for running several health institutions in the Tricity at the ripe age of 96. Apart from veterans, three serving soldiers were honoured for exhibiting valour combating terrorists at various places. The function was followed by a cultural programme, organised jointly by artistes of CSCA and Western Command.
