Additional district and sessions judge Najar Singh on Wednesday acquitted seven persons booked on charges of murdering a scrap dealer following contradictions in statements of the witnesses.

The UT police on December 2, 2012, had booked Pawan Kumar, 22, a labourer; Rinku Tewari, Deepak Kumar, 22, shopowner; Jai Nath, 31, private job; Rakesh Kumar, 36, washerman; Sanjay Kumar, 26, private job; and Ashiq Ansari, 23, private driver, all residents of Deep Complex, Hallomajra, for murdering Siya Ram, a scrap dealer in Hallomajra owing to prior enmity.

Police had alleged that Jai Nath had got Siya Ram murdered after paying rs 50,000 to Pawan Kumar, who executed the murder with the help of other accused.

However, considering the contradictions in the statements of the witnesses, coupled with absence of any eyewitness, the court let off all accused.
