Shimla is the favourite travel destination for residents of Chandigarh, a survey conducted by TripAdvisor, a travel website, has found. Besides, Dubai figures as the most preferred destination abroad. TripAdvisor shared this data for Chandigarh for 2013 and 2014.

After Shimla, Manali is the most frequented destination by city residents. Further, Bangkok stands second to Dubai in the top international destinations visited by Chandigarh residents.

Sharing the information, TripAdvisor country manager Nikhil Ganju said, “We have seen a massive growth in the number of city resident going for vacation. The scenario has just changed in past 18 months. Also at least 50% travellers get in touch with us though mobile applications, and at least one third make their bookings using the application. People are not only going for vacation more, but are also getting tech savvy.”

For Chandigarh, the number of travellers researching their travel online has increased by 49%, and travellers researching Indian destinations have gone up by 53%. Travellers researching international destinations from the city have gone up by 39%.

Ganju further shared that it also appeared that Punjab was an upcoming tourist destination for international visitors.

He revealed that as per the survey, “The number of non-Indian travellers researching Chandigarh went up by 39% and the number of Indian travellers researching it grew by a significant 50%.”

According to TripIndex Cities released by TripAdvisor in June 2014, Chandigarh emerged the second most pocket-friendly city in India after Jaipur. The annual TripIndex is a travel price index of 56 cities across the globe, including nine Indian cities.

The index compares the cost of an evening out, taking into account typical costs for two people to enjoy a pre-meal cocktail, a meal out, taxis, and an overnight stay for two during June to August.

Also as per the survey, Rock Garden of Chandigarh ranked number 1 among the Top 10 Parks in India.
