After the rape of a Dalit girl in Haryana’s Hisar district, another such incident — this time involving a backward-caste woman — has occurred in the state within 12 days and become politicised.
On September 21, three persons in their early 20s allegedly raped a woman, 32, at a spot 20 km from Jind town, made a video clip of the incident and circulated it in the area. Sources said the victim was seen begging for mercy in the clip.
The police arrested one accused on September 26 and have detained the father of another.
The victim told media persons later: “The matter was reported on the same day, but the police arrested no one then."
Investigating officer Virender Singh said: “The victim has been given the security of two women constables, who will remain outside her house."
When Jind SP Saurabh Singh was asked why the police took so long, he said: “We are on the job.”
Opposition parties called it a failure of the state government. Abhay Singh Chautala, INLD MLA, said: “Such incidents are bound to happen when ruling party (Congress) ministers and legislators are involved in crime.”
On September 9 in Hisar, a 16-year-old Dalit girl was raped by a group of men who threatened to make public an MMS of her’s, following which her father committed suicide.
