Showers of rain has brought a cheer on face of apple growers in the district, who were facing dry weather from the past one month in the district.
Due to increase in temperature and dry weather in the district, apple growers started to experience dropping in their orchards since past few days.
Advent of the monsoon benefits the apple orchardists across the state as it helps to increase the size of fruit and diminish the effect of drought.
Ramesh Thakur, an apple orchardist from Khrahal valley, said the rain would prove a boon to the apple crops in the district that were facing dry weather.
“It'll help to increase the size of apple fruit in the orchards and is also beneficial for other crops, including maize, which requires sufficient rainfall for better production,” he added.
In Himachal, most part of the apple production areas are dependent on seasonal rainfall to deal with the draught-like situation that affect the growers directly if weather remained dry for a long period.
Horticulture department deputy director BS Rana said this year due to inclement weather more than `13 crore loss had been assessed in the horticulture sector in the district.
