Ridham Kalyan, a student of Cambridge international school has made the city proud by making it to the top eight of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs, which is in its fifth season.

On January 27 on the show, Alka Yagnik even honoured Ridham with a gold medal for his outstanding performance.
In November 2014, silent auditions were held in the city where five students from different schools of Amritsar were selected and then these five went through the mega auditions at Mumbai out of which Ridham is the only one who could make it to top ten by bagging silver medal and now top eight with a gold medal, shares Sonia Sharma, head of the music department at Ridham’s school.

Auditions were not easy for the 13 year old Ridham who first had to compete on the district level, then the state level and then on the national level.

Ridham’s family could not afford a school like Cambridge but his exceptional talent was spotted by the music teacher Sonia and then backed by the principal, Sunita Babu, through which he was given free admission in the school and is also being trained in music.

“Ridham is now in Class 9, but when he was in Class 5 he participated in Mohammed Rafi night’s annual competition where he was spotted by me and I approached his family. With the help of the principal and the directors Ridham was brought him to Cambridge in class seventh” shares Sonia.

Raman Kumar Kalyan, Ridham’s father claims, “My boy is the only one from the north zone who has made it to the top eight in the reality show. He has earlier participated in other reality shows as well.”
