The police have booked a resident of Malleka village for allegedly raping a 35-year-old woman on Sunday. On the complaint of the victim, mother of one child, a rape case has been registered against Virender Singh while his accomplice Jagmit Singh has been booked for criminal conspiracy.

The victim, a resident of Kuttabad village, had gone to pluck cotton from fields in Malleka village when Virender Singh allegedly raped her as his accomplice stood guard. The two who hailed from Malleka village fled from the spot after committing the crime.

On reaching home, the victim narrated the incident to her family members who informed police. She was taken to the Sirsa civil hospital for medical examination. No arrest was made till filing of this report.

It is the second such incident from the district in a week when a woman's modesty has been outraged. On November 8, police had arrested a man, who claimed to be a relative of the Sirsa member of Parliament, for allegedly molesting a nurse at Kirti Nagar here. The suspect was identified as Bhupinder Singh alias Happy. In an inebriated condition, he had allegedly tried to outrage the modesty of the victim when she was returning home after work.

Sources added that efforts were made to settle the matter, but on the intervention of Sirsa superintendent of police Rajshree Singh a case under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the suspect.
