After registering two cases against Punjab Police inspector general Gautam Cheema, the police have constituted two special investigation teams (SIT) for further investigation of the cases.
Both the cases - of abduction of a proclaimed offender (PO) and molestation - were registered after conducting detailed enquiry. Senior superintendent of police Inder Mohan Singh said that the SIT was constituted to investigate the case in more detail and also to verify the role of the accused. He added that the report of SIT would be submitted "soon".
Initially, the SAS Nagar police had filed a report to their senior officials following to which the FIR has been registered against IG Cheema and Ajay Chaudhary. Interestingly, both the SITs are led by SP (D) Gursharandeep Grewal, the same officer who had conducted the preliminary investigation of both the cases.
The teams also include two deputy superintendents of police, Alam Vijay Singh and Rajinder Singh Sohal.
In the case of molestation, after the preliminary investigation of more than three months, the case has been lodged against three persons, including Cheema and Chaudhary. In the abduction of former PO Sumedh Gulati, initially the police accused Cheema and Chaudhary.
Meanwhile, the SSP said, "We have alerted airport authorities as Cheema and Chaudhary are still absconding." Three teams have been sent to neighbouring states in search of the accused.
