Six children among 13 killed in J&K road mishap

At least 13 people, including six children, were killed when a passenger taxi they were travelling in skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge in mountainous Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said in Jammu today.

At least 13 people, including six children, were killed when a passenger taxi they were travelling in skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge in mountainous Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said in Jammu on Wednesday.

"A passenger taxi which was on way from Jammu to Srinagar, rolled down into 1,000-feet deep gorge during wee hours near Digdol in Banihal area of Ramban," Anil Magotra, Superintendent of Police, Ramban here said.

He said there are apprehensions that the driver might have felt asleep and failed to control the vehicle while negotiating a sharp turn, which resulted in the accident.

"With the first light, we started the rescue operation and recovered the bodies of all 13 passengers travelling in the vehicle," he added.

The bodies of deceased children, men and women were shifted to the hospital, the SP said.
