Gian Chand Gupta, who is contesting on BJP ticket from the Panchkula constituency, CPI leader Mamchand Basia and four independents — Rakesh Gill, Vijay Singh, Jagdeep Sharma and Ashok Gupta — filed their nomination papers on Thursday.

The papers were filed at the sub-divsional magistrate’s office in mini-secretariat.

The BJP election office in Sector 8 had started buzzing with activity since early in the morning, as party workers had started gathering there to be a party of the BJP road show before the filing of nomination papers. Scores of cars, scooters and motorcycles with BJP flags reached the venue with hundreds of supporters raising slogans in support of Gian Chand Gupta, who has been associated with the BJP for the past 40 years.

BJP state president Ram Bilas Sharma also joined the road show in support of Gian Chand, which culminated at party election office, following which he went to file his nomination papers.

Ram Bilas said PM Narendra Modi would address 12 rallies in different parts of Haryana in the next three weeks. Ambala MP Rattan Lal Kataria also joined the road show in support of Gupta.
