The Chandigarh police claimed to have solved nine theft cases with the arrest of six members of a gang that used to befool drivers of cars parked in markets for taking away expensive stuff.
The gang used to target SUVs and luxurious cars parked in the markets and would lift stuff from the vehicles such as laptop, cash, valuable and documents.
The police team under supervision of Sector 17 station house officer inspector Udaypal Singh brought the gang members on production warrant from New Delhi on February 12.
The accused have been identified as Ranganathan (40), Lognathan (25), Stalin (27), Aklian (23), Parumal (49), Muttu Kumar (30), all residents of Tamil Nadu.
The gang was sent to three-day police remand of the by the Chandigarh district court. The remaining three members of the gang identified as Kumaran (43), Prabhakar (34) and Saravana (25) are still in Delhi police custody.
The police also recovered Rs 50,000, Samsung Galaxy Note mobile phone and valuable documents from them.
The gang in the group of 9 to 10 used to travel from Delhi to Chandigarh by bus or train. They used to target luxury vehicles, SUVs parked in front of branded showrooms, bank square Sector 17, 22 and other sector markets.
The accused used to throw currency notes near vehiclesa and then knock driver's door to distract their attention. In the meantime, other gang member use to take away bag from other side window. One of their head member use to take away laptop, mobile phone and cash from them and depart separately to Delhi.
