There has been a spurt in the incidents of snatching in the city of late, with majority of the victims being women.

Of as many as 75 incidents of snatching reported this year so far, only a few cases have been solved. This month, over 20 such incidents have been reported to the police. In most of the cases, the snatchers came on motorcycles with their faces covered.

Even as the police put up anti-snatching nakas in the city, particularly during the morning and evening hours, the snatchers continue to give them a slip.

Most of the snatchers use black colour motorcycles and their main targets are middle-aged women. They decamp with gold chains and purses from women out on walk or even riding two-wheelers.

Moreover, the snatchers also tend to strike at inner sector roads which are generally deserted. More cases snatchings have been reported in the east and south zone of the city.
