The union ministry of social justice and empowerment has instituted 13 categories for awarding the Vayoshrestha Samman and the central government has invited two nominations (maximum) under each category.
The social welfare department, Chandigarh Administration, has invited applications from potential individuals and institutions for the award to be given on the occasion of International Day for Elderly on October 1 for forwarding the same to the Government of India.
The awards will be given on different categories such as "best institution for research and dissemination of knowledge in the field of ageing"; "best institution for providing services to senior citizens"; "best district panchayat"; "best urban local body"; best state in implementing the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007"and "providing services and facilities to senior citizens"; "best private sector organisation in promoting the well being and welfare of senior citizens"; "best public sector organisation in promoting the well being and welfare of senior citizens"; "centenarian award"; "iconic mother award", "lifetime achievement award"; "award for creative art"and "award for sports, adventure, courage and bravery".
The awards will consist citation, momento and cash award. The application forms can be collected from the Director Social Welfare, Sector 17-C, Chandigarh, and the last date for form submission is January 7.
