Leaders of the Students Organisation of India (SOI), Panjab University, on Tuesday met Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal at his residence here.
The student leaders claimed that Sukhbir appreciated the performance of the student wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the recently held Panjab University student council elections. He also discussed the problems faced by the university students, they said.
"He listened to the problems faced by the students at PU and assured us that the Punjab government would extend all possible help to them," Vicky Middukhera, SOI leader said.
The SOI, re-launched by SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia in February, failed to win any seat in the elections, but got a considerable number of votes for all four candidates.
The leaders are also learnt to have discussed about strengthening the party cadres in colleges of Chandigarh and Punjab so that more youths get enrolled into the student wing.
"We have assured the deputy chief minister of a magnificent victory in the next elections," Yadwinder Dhaliwal, SOI president, said.
