The son of Nurmahal-based Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan head Ashutosh Maharaj has approached the Punjab and Haryana high court seeking directions to the dera members to handover the mortal remains of his father to him.

He has also sought an inquiry to ascertain the real cause of the dera head’s death.

Dalip Kumar Jha, a resident of Lakhnaur village in Madhubani district of Bihar, filed the petition on Monday which will come up for hearing on Tuesday before the court headed by justice Ritu Bahri.

On January 29, the dera doctors had declared Ashutosh Maharaj clinically dead after which the sansthan management had put the body inside a deep freezer.

The petitioner suspects that his father was poisoned so as to grab the dera assets. He has urged that even as he earlier approached the Punjab government and the dera members through the Bihar government in this regard, no action was taken.

Earlier, the dera head’s former driver Puran Singh had also approached the HC seeking probe into the case besides demanding post-mortem of Ashutosh’s body. However, the Punjab police had informed the HC on April 4 that there was no evidence to suggest that Ashutosh’s death was unnatural or under suspicious circumstances.
