Special judge, CBI, Vimal Kumar sent SP (city) Deshraj Singh to judicial custody on Sunday.

Deshraj was produced in the court after the expiry of his two-day police remand at 10am, with an application that the accused should be sent to judicial custody.

Deshraj Singh, an IPS officer of 2008 batch, who was holding the additional charge of SP (headquarters), was arrested by CBI sleuths on Thursday night in a trap while he was allegedly accepting illegal gratification of Rs 1 lakh from Chandigarh police inspector Anokh Singh, SHO of the Sector-26 police station, for helping him in inquiries pending against him.

Defence counsel Vishal Garg Narwana urged the court to direct the CBI to provide them the copies of the transcripts of the alleged recorded conversation between the accused Deshraj and complainant Anokh Singh along with the pre-trap and the post-trap memos.

Meanwhile, the CBI has sought time to reply to the request of the defence counsel and the case will now come up for hearing on Tuesday.

"The CBI has relied heavily on the alleged transcripts while seeking the custodial interrogation of Deshraj, so we have asked the court to direct the CBI to provide the copies to us. According to the transcripts that they had read out in the court, there was no demand of bribe, so we have asked for the transcripts along with pre-trap and post-trap memos," the defence counsel said while talking to mediapersons after the court proceedings.
