Speeding truck claims lives of two near Landran

In yet another hit and run incident, two motorcycleborne men were killed after being hit by a speeding truck, near Landran on Banur road on Thursday night.

Such was the impact of the mishap that limbs of the victims were severed from the bodies.

The deceased have been identified as Kashmira Singh and Gurpreet Singh, both residents of Kharar. In their
early 20s, both worked as electricians.

Gurdeep Singh, who runs a shop in the vicinity of the mishap site, sounded the police.

Speaking to HT, Gurdeep said, “I was about to leave for home after closing down my shop, when I heard a loud screech. When I came out, I saw two men lying in a pool of blood. I immediately called the police.”

Police rushed the victims to government hospital in Phase 6, where both were declared brought dead.

The truck driver fled the spot after abandoning the vehicle a few kilometres from the accident site. The
police have taken the truck into their custody.


Two brothers, residents of Jandla village, drowned in Bhakra canal on Wednesday evening. The victims were having a bath by the side of the canal, when Kuldeep, 21, slipped into its depths; Balwinder, 23, jumped in the canal to save him, but both were swept away by the strong current and their bodies were recovered near the Ganguwal Power House.

Interestingly, the DM has banned bathing in rivers and canals of Rupnagar, yet the order is followed more in breach.


A 42-year-old threewheeler driver was killed on Thursday when a rashly driven car hit his vehicle at Sector 51 here.

The deceased has been identified as Arun Kumar, a resident of Sector 49.
