Former MLA and Congress spokesman Sukhpal Khaira on Sunday said he stood vindicated in his charges of embezzlement against Punjab chief parliamentary secretary NK Sharma and his companies.
Khaira exposed a five-year-old sale deed effected by NK Sharma Enterprises Limited, wherein the company sold 17 bighas (4.25 acres) through a sale deed for a whopping Rs 25 crore, (Rs 12,153 per square yard) to Indian Railway Welfare Organisation, 100 yards from his current Savitry Green I project.
"Misusing his official position as the CPS, Sharma pressed the revenue authorities, Dera Bassi, and bought 11 acres of land at the same village, Bishanpura, Zirakpur, for Rs 25 crore on March 28 this year, for only Rs 4,695 per square yard. Is it not a mockery of law that Sharma sells a piece of land at Rs 12,153 per square yard five years back, then buys 11 acres at the same site in 2013, at half the price at which he sold the land in 2008," said Khaira.
This showed Sharma exercised immense political influence on the government machinery of SAS Nagar district and it was his wish that determined the rate at which stamp duty was to be paid and not the fixed collector rate, he alleged.
Khaira alleged that the recent inquiry conducted by the SAS Nagar DC was nothing but a farce, as he had spared Sharma by only fixing Rs 1.3 crore as stamp duty evasion, whereas it should have been Rs 4.5 crore.
Khaira challenged Sharma to publicly explain the fraud being committed by his companies by evading stamp duty and constructing illegal residential projects of Savitry Greens I and II, without environmental clearance.
