Member of Parliament (MP) Prem Singh Chandumajra on Monday said the Punjab government was likely to take a final decision on exempting residents having houses with an area of up to 125 square yards from paying property tax before Diwali.

Speaking about the various development projects in the pipeline for the city at a press conference, the MP said, “We are working on drawing up new parameters for computing the tax. It will be delinked from the collector tax.”

He said that the tax will be rationalised and will be nominal to ensure it is within tax-payers’ means.

The MP also announced that the state government would undertake several development projects in the city soon. A police post would be set up at the SAS Nagar railway station within a week, he said.

The state government will also provide adequate lighting on the street leading to the station within a month.

Several solid waste management projects are also in the pipeline for the city, he said.

“The government is now looking for land to be used as a dumping ground, where the plant will also be set up. The projects would be made operational soon,” he said.
