State president of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Ashok Arora, who lost to his nearest rival Subhash Sudha of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Thanesar assembly segment on Sunday resigned from the post of president owning responsibility for his party’s loss in the elections.
Arora told HT that as his party failed to get majority in the assembly, he tendered his resignation from the post, owning the moral responsibility.
He admitted that the Modi wave was still effective, the main reason behind INLD bagging less than expected seats.
Meanwhile, supporters of Subhash Sudha, celebrated his victory by dancing on the beats of drums and took out a victory procession in the town and distributed sweats. Sudha defeated Arora by 25,538 votes. Sudha polled 68,080 votes as against 42,442 polled by Arora. Congress candidate, Pawan Garg trailed at third position polling by bagging 13,769 votes.
