The Haryana government will conduct a survey of manual scavengers in 76 towns of the state by September 30, the data of which will be complied by October 31.

An official spokesman, in a release, said on Tuesday that the local bodies department would undertake the survey in areas under the municipal limits, while the panchayat and development department would carry out the survey for areas outside the municipal limits. In all, 12 places are outside the municipal limits.

He said the National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC) would provide funds for the survey as it was a national priority. Haryana was among 11 states where the union ministry of social justice and empowerment had nominated the NSFDC as the nodal agency at central level to coordinate the survey of manual scavengers, he added.
