Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday asked the Punjab Congress leadership to stop "openly urging leading national and international business and industrial houses not to invest in Punjab".

Instead of joining hands with us in promoting the state and bringing more investments for development and economic prosperity of our people, the Congress leaders, including state party chief Partap Singh Bajwa, have actually gone into an overdrive to campaign against the interests of their home state, going to the extent of telling even the Tatas not to be "misled" into investing in Punjab.

"I am shocked to see Congress leaders getting so panicky on seeing the economic resurgence of Punjab. The Congress is crestfallen that even the Reserve Bank of India has now rated Punjab as one of the three best investment destinations in the country. They can't believe what they are seeing and neither do they like it. So, they have launched a massive propaganda campaign to dissuade investors from coming to Punjab. But I appeal to them to stop betraying the land that gave them birth and fed them. It is sad to see them so upset over good news about Punjab," the CM added.

Badal said the Congress was jittery that their doomsday predictions on Punjab were proving false.

"They are sensing the economic tide turning in favour of Punjab, with big houses like the Tatas, IT giants such as Infosys and many others showing keen interest in investing in the state. They did their best to defame the state for decades… But Punjab has arisen now, and the Congress won't be able to stop its march back to economic ascendancy. In their own interest, Congress leaders would be well advised to halt their vicious propaganda campaign against their own state and people."

Badal said he was shocked "by the brazen manner in which the Congress leaders are campaigning against the interests of their home state, and bending over backwards to stop big-ticket investments coming to Punjab and thus inflicting damage on their home state."
