A city-based fashion store has been directed to pay Rs28,000 to a complainant for deficiency in service as well as unfair trade practice.

The complainant had alleged that a dress was not only delivered late, but was also dirty and old. The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum in Chandigarh directed 'Rimple and Mayyur' store to return the cost of the ordered dress (Rs20,000), plus harassment charges of Rs5,000 as well as R3,000 as litigation cost.

Anjana Mehta submitted that she placed an order for a pink chantel lace jacket along with cigarette pants on September 9, 2010 at an exhibition organised at Hotel Taj.

She paid Rs20,000 advance for the dress. It was alleged that the dress was received a month later and was the same sample kept in the exhibition for trial.

Mehta also claimed the cigarette pants were replaced by pyjamas. She contacted the store and sent a letter but to no avail. No one appeared on behalf of the store. Mehta had also filed a complaint against Hotel Taj but the forum exonerated it from deficiency in service.
