In response to the state-wide call for strikes by the employees' union, the strike by municipal council (MC) employees continued for the 21st day on Monday.

The protestors have been demanding that the government withdraw the notification regarding the transfer of clerical staff, abolish the contract system in MCs, regularise the terms and conditions of employees of the Mohalla Sanitation Committee, withdraw the notification to hand over water supply and sewerage work to the Water Supply and Sewerage Board and increase the amount on Value Added Tax paid to the MC to 20%.

The strike by MC employees has resulted in the deterioration of sanitary conditions in the town. The administration tried to the address the situation by disposing garbage lying at different places in the town. But those efforts were insufficient and the sanitary conditions in the town have become worse.
