Work in government offices, banks and other financial institutions were also affected. Educational institutions wore a deserted look.
People are protesting against the death of one Sajjad Ahmad who was detained in Kupwara jail under PSA since January this year.
Sajjad was shifted to SK Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) on Thursday after he complained of headache. However, he died in the hospital.
However, his family members alleged that he had to undergo MRI test which could not be done because of his arrest in January.
They alleged that he was not provided proper treatment in the jail due to which his condition deteriorated.
However, police said the exact cause of his death was not known.A post mortem had been conducted which will help us to reach to conclusion about his death, police added.
