The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Tuesday alleged that student groups on the campus were indulging in unfair means to win elections and demanded that action be taken against them.

AVBP campus president Sukhjot Singh said many student organisations were violating the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Commission to hold the student council polls. “Outsiders are campaigning in PU, trips are being organised to various places and students are being taken to discotheques where they were being offered liquor,” he said, adding that the matter should be looked into and strict action should be initiated against them to give out a strong message.

Meanwhile, the PU authorities on Tuesday issued notice to the Panjab University Student Union (PUSU) for pasting party stickers on lab equipment at the biotechnology department.

Navdeep Goyal, dean student welfare (DSW), PU, said his office had received a complaint from the department of biotechnology and a notice had been served on PUSU to clarify on violations.

Officials said some students who were campaigning in the department entered the laboratories and pasted party stickers on equipment.

PUSU was issued a notice on Monday as well as a warning that its candidate was seen campaigning with party stickers and if any violation was reported, PU would take action against him.
