Member of Parliament (MP) from Chandigarh Kirron Kher was felicitated on Friday for getting 50 MBBS seats restored at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32.
The students and their parents, who had been demanding that the GMCH should admit 100 students as was done last year well, felicitated Kirron to thank her for her contribution.
Earlier this year, the Medical Council of India (MCI) had denied the permission to the college to add 50 more seats citing infrastructural issues. The MCI gave go ahead after intervention from local BJP leaders and the union health ministry.
Speaking at the event, Kirron said she was committed for Chandigarh and would leave no stone unturned to solve the problems of its residents, along with ensuring the city's development.
The MP also said transport infrastructure would be her top priority and that the government of India had been forthcoming on the issue and Chandigarh in the days to come would see a large number of projects to ease out traffic on the roads in the city.
