The Punjab government on Friday fixed the state agreed price (SAP) of advanced, medium and late varieties of sugarcane at Rs 290, Rs 280 and Rs 275 per quintal, respectively, for the crushing season 2013-14.
A decision came out in a Sugarcane Control Board meeting here where chief minister Parkash Singh Badal led the proceedings. The SAP in the crushing season 2012-13 was Rs 250, Rs240 and Rs 235 per quintal, respectively.
The CM instructed the financial commissioner (development) Suresh Kumar to draft norms for easy payment to the sugarcane farmers and take steps to enhance the crushing capacity of the Bhogpur co-operative sugar mill, a spokesman has said.
Badal also asked the officers concerned to assure the provision of sugarcane harvesting machinery to farmers for nominal price, for which the government already had chalked out a scheme.
