Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal congratulated the state sportspersons for their spectacular performance in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Badal congratulated ace shooter and Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra for winning a gold medal in 10m air rifle, ASI Navjot Chana for a silver in men’s judo and 16-year-old Malaika Goel for wining silver in the women’s 10m air pistol. He also lauded the bronze medal winning effort of head constable Rajwinder Kaur in women’s judo. He said that out of the total 22 sportspersons who have won the medals till now, four belong to Punjab and the state government will honor all the medallists on their return and cash awards as per state policy will be given.
According to the policy a gold medallist will receive a cash prize of Rs 16 lakh, while Rs 11 lakh and Rs 6 lakh will be given to the silver and bronze medal winners, respectively.
