Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday granted next higher ranks to 865 police personnel of various ranks, according to a government spokesperson.
Among the police personnel set to get the next rank are 40 superintendents of police, 125 deputy superintendents of police, 200 inspectors, 250 sub-inspectors, and 250 assistant sub-inspectors.
"The deputy CM will preside over the formal piping ceremony to be organised soon for these police officers and officials at Punjab Armed Police headquarters, Jalandhar," the spokesperson said.
The government will also enlarge the ambit of new initiatives, including the rural rapid police response system, under which police assistance is made available in villages and remotest rural areas within less than 20 minutes. "The safe city project in Ludhiana and Amritsar, the senior citizen helpline and the NRI helpline are some other measures which are likely to be implemented statewide soon," the spokesperson said.
