Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday denied the charge of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa about rigging in the zila parishad and block samiti polls.
The deputy chief minister said the fact that 639 seats were bagged by the Congress and other non-Akali candidates, besides majority achieved by the opposition party in the Talwara block samiti, reflected the fairness and transparency in conducted the elections.
"Have these 639 candidates of the Bajwa brigade won by rigging the elections?" Sukhbir asked. He said the results of the zila parishad and block samiti polls showed the harsh reality that during the tenure of Partap Singh Bajwa as the state Congress chief, the party's seat share, which was 40% in the 2012 Vidhan Sabha polls, had now come down to 20.8%.
Describing the zila parishad and block samiti polls as a trailer for the Lok Sabha elections, Sukhbir said the Congress was all set to be consigned to history by the voters.
