Supporters protest Asaram Bapu's arrest in Chandigarh

Demanding the release of self-styled godman Asaram, his supporters, mostly women, held a protest and courted arrest here on Monday. Claiming that Asaram had been falsely implicated in a case of alleged sexual exploitation of a minor, the supporters demanded his immediate release along with withdrawal of the case registered against him. Demanding the release of self-styled godman Asaram, his supporters, mostly women, held a protest and courted arrest here on Monday.

Claiming that Asaram had been falsely implicated in a case of alleged sexual exploitation of a minor, the supporters demanded his immediate release along with withdrawal of the case registered against him. The disciples also courted arrested and were taken to sector 34 police.



Agitated over the arrest and with the Asaram being sent to judicial custody, about 200 of his disciples from various tricity held protest in sector 34, Chandigarh. The protest was led by female disciples who believed that Asaram is "innocent" and "being framed" and were even seen crying at the arrest of their spiritual leader.

"He is being targeted by few political forces and is falsely implicated in the case," said Rajinder Singh one of his disciples.

"The case is totally false. There are forces that are working against those who are propagating spiritual values. He is being framed," claimed Shanti Devi another disciple.

"It is unfortunate that guru like Asaram is behind bars. All we are demanding justice which is being denied to him," opined Bala Rani.
