Bihar State Women Commission (SWC) took objection to Haryana BJP leader OP Dhankhar's comment 'Bihari bride for Haryana boys' and slapped a notice on him on Monday asking him to appear before it in person by August 13.
SWC chairperson Anjum Ara told PTI that the commission took suo motu cognisance of reports published in newspapers on Dhankhar's controversial remark and issued a notice to him asking him to submit a reply in person by August 13.
The reports appearing in newspapers show that Dhankhar's remark was "insulting" to women of the state and the commission would proceed against the BJP leader after receiving his reply, Ara said.
Dhankhar, who is BJP Kisan Morcha (farmers' cell) president, while addressing a party workers meeting in Haryana on Saturday, reportedly had made the controversial remark that if the party was voted to power in the state polls, it would get girls from Bihar to ensure men in Haryana get married.
He had also said that Bihar BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi was his close friend and would extend help.
The issue rocked both houses of Bihar legislature during the day with JD(U), RJD and Congress making a hue and cry over Dhankhar's remarks. BJP, however, defended him.
