Sweet shops fined for unhygienic conditions

The UT adviser and home secretary-cum-commissioner food safety, Vijay Dev, has directed all the SDMs to conduct raids on sweets shops, restaurants located in their respective areas as a pre-monsoon preventive measure to curb spreading of diseases like jaundice, diarrhoea, food poisoning, etc.

Following this, a team was constituted under the direction of Danish Ashraf, sub-divisional magistrate (east) comprising Bhupesh Chaudhary (IAS probationer), inspectors Amandeep Singh, Rajnish Khevaria, Bhaljinder Singh and officials from the food safety department officials.

The team held raids at Chandigarh Sweets, Industrial Area, Gopal Sweets, Sector 27, Pal Sweets Dairy and Dhaba, Sector 27C, Chandigarh Sweets, Sector 27, and Gazal Restaurant, Sector 17. The Gazal Restaurant and Pal Sweets were fined for unhygienic conditions, while 10-kg and 14-kg sweets were destroyed at Sector 27-based Chandigarh Sweets and Industrial Area-based Chandigarh Sweets.
