The American Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC) has expressed concern over proposed changes in the Nanakshahi calendar.
It said that Akal Takht, which is holding a clergy meeting on Thursday, must convene a separate meeting of all parties, organisations and Sikh bodies, including the AGPC, and consult them before taking any decision.
Sources said Pal Singh Purewal, the creator of the calendar, had not even been invited to discuss the issue.
The AGPC has already expressed apprehensions that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is planning to eliminate the 2003 Nanakshahi calendar.
AGPC president Jaswant Singh Hothi and coodinator Pritpal Singh said in a release here that there was a conspiracy on to eliminate the calendar under the influence of the RSS.
They reiterated that the SGPC under the influence of the RSS has chalked out a plan to overrule the Nanakshahi calendar and convert it into the Bikrami calendar.
"There is a conspiracy by the Sangh Parivaar to change the Nanakshahi Calendar into the Bikrami Calendar, and we will oppose this with all the force at our command," said Dr Pritpal Singh.
