As two communities clashed in Tauru, a town in Mewat, 40km from Gurgaon, political parties rushed to the town to slur each other and gain political mileage in the run up to the Assembly elections due in October.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuriya, Member of Parliament (MP) from Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan, trained guns at the Congress. Jaunapuriya had lost the last by-poll from Sohna.
“This government has done nothing but divide people on grounds of religion by favouring one while oppressing the other. It has only played its dirty vote bank politics to remain in power. Whatever happened today happened with the collusion of Hooda government. This government has chosen to rein in overloaded dumpers for only politics,” he said while addressing a gathering on the road to Vijay chowk from Tauru chowk.
Other BJP leaders were not far behind in reaching the spot, while an immediate panchayat was called at a dharamshala, where people vented out their frustration.
“One community is increasingly becoming just a footnote in the entire social structure of Mewat while the aggression of the other is going on increasing,” said Lala Satish Chand, a resident of Tauru.
Gurgaon BJP leader GL Sharma, who is a close confidante of MP and minister of state for defence Rao Inderjit Singh also addressed the panchayat and conveyed the minister’s message.
Meanwhile, Gopi Chand Gehlot of INLD also castigated the government for its laxity in dealing with overloaded dumpers and the incompetence to deal with communal violence. “What happened today is unfortunate, but a result of the negative attitude of the Congress government,” he said.
Curfew was clamped in Tauru in the wake of tension between two communities after a truck mowed down two bike-bor ne men, killing one of them on the spot. The deceased was a 22-year-old youth. The driver and helper of the truck, who belong to a particular community, were thrashed by a mob, sparking communal violence in the area, according to the police.
